What is Childhood Apraxia of Speech?
This diagnosis is a motor speech disorder in which children has difficulty creating an auditory code and to plan, coordinate, sequence, produce and combine oral movements necessary to produce phonemes, syllables, words, phrases and sentences.
Possible childhood apraxia of speech indicators:
As an infant (1 year)
An older child
If your child has one of these indicators, you should try to have, as soon as possible, an assessment in our clinic, which is the most important initial step. Perhaps your child does not have a traditional articulation problem, but another diagnosis like childhood apraxia of speech.

Parents of children with cochlear implants often go through the frustration of waiting for their children to begin to speak or speak clearer after implantation, but the reality is different. Why? Because their child now hears only the sounds, but has not yet processed, nor can discriminate or understand what he hears. A therapy program that will help these children to process what they now hear is necessary; it is only through the development of auditory processing of language that they can develop a more adequate verbal communication.
It is for these children that we have developed a specialized therapeutic program aimed to meet the need for increased auditory processing and development of verbal communication following the implantation.
The program for children with cochlear implant includes:
What are the benefits of the program?
The problems which impair children to develop reading and writing skills are more frequent each year. These difficulties affect an adequate school performance now and eventually will disturb their future professional development. Today the majority of children of school age either receives tutorials or supervised studies or has been moved to a specialized school that will allow them to cope with their difficulties.
How can we help these children and youngsters?
To develop these skills a multisensory therapeutic program that work towards the achievement of the reading and writing must contain the following areas:
Language development is the most important area in a child’s growing process. It allows them to comprehend, communicate their needs, socialize effectively, read, write and be successful in school.
To be able to clearly articulate the different sounds of speech is socially important and essential for developing reading and writing skills.
The program for children with Speech and Language difficulties includes:
Children with Down syndrome present a significant delay in the linguistic development, difficulties processing auditory information and oral motor sensory disorder. Our program provides these children with an intensive and specialized therapeutic approach in the three areas previously mentioned.
The program for children with Down syndrome includes:
The ability to pay attention, concentrate and understanding are the three sides of the school success triangle. It's like a mathematical formula where one process leads to another: paying attention leads to focus and concentration, and this leads to understanding and comprehension. It is impossible to succeed in school without mastering this triangle in its three components. However, every day there are more children who fail in school or do not execute according to their IQ or potential due to their difficulties to pay attention, concentrate and understand. These three skills depend on good auditory processing. That's why we've designed a cutting edge program to help these children, based on a strengthening of auditory processing.
